Originally the Library created, printed, addressed, stamped, and sent a 3 page newsletter seasonally.  But the newsletter was sent to only around 300 of the now 39,364 (2010 Census) citizens of Harrison County.  This newsletter is now being reformatted into a Blog that will enable the staff of the Library to keep posts more current and will allow anyone who wants to be alerted to become a member and receive an email as soon as an event goes public.  Non-members will still be able to view blog and event posts.

Is this a good move for the Library?  Will more people be reached through this media than through the traditional mailings?  Did you know the Library also maintains a Facebook Page?  Will these modes of communication help you keep current with the Library's events?

It may be sad to be the first to reply to myself, but I am VERY excited to have the blog!
Having an online blog is not only a great way to reach more Harrison County residents, but also saves a great deal of money that would be spent to mail those 300 newsletters.  Many businesses and public entities are doing the same thing.  HCPL has made a great decision.
Plus, it is better for the environment as we don't have to cut trees, use chemicals & ink, etc.
