Register for Summer Reading!

Registration starts this morning, Tuesday, May 29, for the library summer reading program.  You may register online or by visiting or calling any library branch.

The Summer Reading Program is for children age 2 through high school.  The program begins June 1 and ends on July 31.  For more information call the children's desk at the main branch, 738-4110.

Books in Spanish (Libros en español)

Did you know that we have books in Spanish? There are several VHS available too. The materials are located in the reference section with magazines and Christmas non-fiction. Want something we do not have, or in another language? You can see the staff at the Reference Desk about Inter-Library Loan. This is the system we use to borrow books in other libraries in Indiana and the rest of the US.

Dream Big - READ!

This summer readers of all ages are invited to Dream Big - READ! during the library's summer reading program, June 1 through July 31.  Registration for the reading program begins Tuesday, May 29 but youth can register anytime during the summer.

Readers in the Read-to-Me Program, ages 2 through those entering 1st grade, and the Summer Reading Group, 2nd through 8th grade, are challenged to read 20 books or 2,000 pages.

To look up a book, the best place to go is to our catalog.  From home and on our computers, you can access it at http://catalog.hcpl.lib.in.us.  Or, use one of our dedicated catalog computers throughout the library and its branches.  If you ever need any help please ask a staff member.

Talking Book & Braille Library

The Talking Book & Braille Library "provides digital audio books, large print books and books in braille to Indiana residents who are unable to read regular print, because of a visual or a physical disability."  This service is available through the Indiana State Library.

Lord of the Rings

The library has many books by JRR Tolkien, about him, about his books, and about the movies based on them.  In the Fantasy Fiction section you can find the Hobbit, all three of the Lord of the rings series, and several stories about middle earth as edited by Tolkien's son Christopher.
