HCPL's New Circulation Policy Goes Into Effect August 2nd

As of August 2nd, 2012, patrons will receive longer loan periods for some materials.

Books, magazines, books on tape, books on CD and Playaways now have a 3-week checkout period, as opposed to the previous 2 weeks. The number of renewals for these items has decreased from 3 times to 1 time.

The Nook eReaders will retain the two-week loan period in order to fulfill holds in a timely manner, as demand is increasing.

An automatic three-week checkout could be just the encouragement people need when they're thinking about checking out an epic-length novel they've always wanted to read. The single renewal sounds good too since it couldn't be easier to keep track of due dates and it decreases wait times for other patrons.

All in all, it sounds like good news to me!
